My Tech Blackout

Driving to my parents house - Gros Morne

Recently I read an article by Michael Hyatt about how he disconnected for a period of time while he was on holidays.  It was a very inspiring article that made me think about what it would be like to do the same.

Then, this happened.

I went to visit my parents who live in a rural part of our province.  I am now left with one bar of cell phone service in some parts of the house and satellite internet that isn’t all that much better than dial-up (ok for email and twitter).  So, I thought, what is the difference between a planned offline mode as opposed to a forced one?

Why I Blog

June 9, 2012 — 5 Comments

I enjoy blogging. But why would a Youth Pastor have a blog in the first place? And one about technology at that!

Starbucks + Keurig! Helps with the busy days.

Well, my blog has been lifeless again lately. Sad times! It has been super busy with life and work.  On the flip side, Starbucks for Keurig became available for us in Canada.  Yes!

A cool thing coming up work wise is our youth retreat for all the youth groups in our area. We have a great speaker and worship leader coming to do ministry at the event and as youth pastors, we believe God will do some amazing things through the event. So that’s exciting!

Another reason I haven’t yet did anything to spruce up my blog or posted much is I have been very busy doing a website redesign for the church I work at. It’s been a lot of fun working on this project.

Re-thinking My Blog

January 29, 2012 — 3 Comments

Lately I have been spending a lot of time thinking about where my blog is heading. I went through a ton of transition in the Fall that caused me to neglect my blog. So, I have been thinking…and thinking…and thinking…

Do we really believe that unity within the body of Christ is important? I don’t believe anyone can debate that unity within the body of Christ is an absolute must for us as Christians. I have read many scriptures in the Bible that talk about Unity. One of my favourites being “How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity,” found in Psalm 133:1. It pleases God when we follow His lead on this!

Let’s think logically for a second. If we would strive to live in unity it would cause us not to fight and quarrel (we may disagree, which I think has its place in strengthening us as believers) both which cause dissension in the body. I have alway seen disunity as a cancer to the body of Christ.
